The New One Hit Wonder

What constitutes a one hit wonder when you step outside the realm of popular music?

The more pretentious selective you are about your musical taste, the more you hoard. Thus, you download albums instead of singles. Since I’ve started doing this, I’ve self-redefined the one hit wonder. When an album collectively is cohesive, creative, inspired etc. but I only really like one song from it.

Two examples:

Chairlift’s Bruises off of Does You Inspire You

Heard this song on an iPod commercial. It’s incredibly catchy. The rest of the album… whenever a song
comes up on shuffle I usually just change it to Bruises.

The Knife’s Heartbeats off of Deep Cuts

Became ingrained into my life after hearing it every week at a bar where some friends DJ. Now, I have random cravings to hear it (and subsequently dance). The rest of the album… eh, who cares put on Heartbeats.

GQ's 50 Most Stylish Men of the Past 50 Years

Favorite musical artist choices from GQ's 50 Most Stylish Men of the Past 50 Years

BECK (click click click)

Beck is a little dude, only 5'7. Yet when he makes his bold fashion choices and rocks quirky, off-beat vintage pieces he's like a 6'2 adonis of style.

KURT cobain (click click click)

What I love most about Kurt Cobain being on this list is that I don't think he gave a f*@# about fashion, yet he defined a decade's style. Better to burn out than fade away, eh?

RAMONES (click click click)

YES. Put your leather on, The Ramones made it so.

PETE doherty (click click click)

At first I was like, say what? (but then I lol'd) I think all the drug abuse has distracted from the fact that he does have banging threads. For being such a mess, he always exudes this “clean-cut” punk style reminiscent of yesteryear. And I think that's what being stylish is all about... looking good even when you've just smoked up a speedball. Yeah?

Oh, Jack

So, Jack White of The White Stripes has a new SUPER BAND. To my knowledge it's number 2 (number one being The Raconteurs). The newest being The Dead Weather a conglomeration of... Alison Mosshart (of The Kills), guitarist Dean Fertita (of Queens of the Stone Age), bassist Jack Lawrence (of The Raconteurs and The Greenhornes) and drummer/vocalist Jack White (of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs). Some Raconteurs sloppy seconds, but I don't mind. Their debut album is apparently being released real real soon. I'm excited to listen.

PS- How sexy is this picture?
